Going on the Account: Coming Ashore and Going to Sea

According to the NY TIMES, the Somali pirates are taking sides in the civil war.

It was inevitable:  There was just too much money off the coast for either side to leave the pirates alone, and too much trauma ashore to allow the crews to ignore the threats to their bases.  Without stable ports, the crews would soon be unable to go on the account, so the only choice they’d have is join up or ship out.

The fact that different crews are taking up with opposite sides means the civil war in Somali gets to continue apace, with the conflict moving a few thousand miles to the east.  The world will soon need to take a more active hand in the conflict now that this civil war goes well beyond the Horn of Africa…
